FlyQuest are now just one best-of-five away from Worlds
The LTA North is already approaching its end, with only four teams left in the race. But the biggest news of the weekend is Team Liquid’s elimination, as they closed out their season in disappointment with a crushing 0-3 defeat against 100 Thieves, who seem to be finally emerging from their slump.
In the other series, FlyQuest earned their ticket to the grand final of the LTA North by defeating Shopify Rebellion 3-1. Living up to their reputation as the tournament favorite, they also secured qualification for the Regional Championship on September 13, placing themselves just one best-of-five away from Worlds.
Team Liquid’s season ends in frustration
For Team Liquid, this 3-0 loss marked the end of a difficult year. Despite a mid-season change in the jungle and the arrival of Ganbat "Yuuji" Ulziidelger during Split 2, the team struggled to find consistency and now bows out looking both exhausted and disappointed. Head coach Jake "Spawn" Tiberi summed it up in a heartfelt speech to his players, later shared publicly by the organization, acknowledging the tough environment they had worked through without finding the desired results. The defeat leaves Liquid with more questions than answers heading into the offseason.
For 100 Thieves, the victory against Liquid was more than just a playoff win — it was a resurgence after a turbulent year. Having overhauled their roster at the start of 2025, they looked promising in Split 1, topping the regular season before falling 0‑3 to Team Liquid in the finals. Split 2 was less convincing, with a third-place group finish and limited playoff impact. But in Split 3, they finally found momentum again, dismantling Liquid in dominant fashion.
This series also carries extra weight because 2025 marks the end of 100 Thieves’ run in professional League of Legends. The organization announced in July that it would be exiting the scene after this season. The clean sweep over Liquid, therefore, feels like a parting statement — a reminder of the team’s resilience and competitiveness, even in their final chapter.
The Tryndamere show
FlyQuest, on the other hand, delivered a convincing performance against Shopify Rebellion, even if the games were hard-fought. The highlight came in Game 4, when Kacper "Inspired" Słoma locked in a rare jungle Tryndamere. This is only the third time the pick has been seen in professional League of Legends history. He not only made it work, but also claimed a spectacular pentakill that sealed the series, even though Song "Quad" Su-hyeong's masterclass on the midlane overall led the series. With this win, FlyQuest marches into the grand final as overwhelming favorites and stands just one victory away from securing a spot at Worlds 2025.
Shopify Rebellion dropped to the lower bracket after this first loss in their playoffs. In any case, they are already guaranteed a top 3 finish and have also secured qualification for the Regional Championship. They will now face the winner of the best-of-five between Cloud9 and 100 Thieves, where one of the two teams will be eliminated. The three remaining series will be played on September 5-6-7 and will bring the LTA North playoffs to a close.
