Big Dhokes joins the Thieves
Niship “Dhokla” Doshi is a toplaner with a long history in NA League of Legends. Since NRG left the league last year, he’s been away from pro play, but now Dhokla is back: as a coach on 100 Thieves.
The 27-year old Indian-American player first debuted on OpTic Gaming in the LCS back in 2018, where the team struggled for a year to find success. After that, Dhokla would spend years grinding to improve his skills in Tier 2, playing on teams like TL and CLG’s respective academy squads. Finally, in 2022, Dhokla got another shot at the big leagues, joining CLG, and then NRG, after the team was bought out. On these teams, spending years with fellow NA underdogs Cristian “Palafox” Palafox and Juan “Contractz” Garcia, magic happened. Dhokla stood out in particular as NRG picked up a shocking-upset LCS Championship and destroyed G2 Esports 2-0 in a Worlds 2023 series (that began the current trend of NA besting EU at internationals). But after an exceptional year on NRG, the team left the league, leaving Dhokla without a team. Now, with years of experience improving his strategic play, Dhokla is entering the world of coaching.
It’s likely that, in his new coaching position on 100T, Dhokla will be working closely with 100 Thieves’ toplaner Rayan “Sniper” Shoura. The two share some similarities in the toplane, including a shared penchant for carry toplaners like Irelia. "@dhoklalol need irelia tips pls" said Sniper, foreshadowing this potential for guidance, in a 2022 social media post.
Dhokla is one of many pro players to have made a move to coaching. On the 100 Thieves coaching staff, he’ll be working under Greyson “GoldenGlue” Gilmer, a former LCS midlaner, as well as former OCE jungler Samuel “Spookz” Broadley. Last year, GoldenGlue and 100 Thieves did win Coaching Staff of the Split. If the addition of Dhokla can help the team’s performance, and bring 100 Thieves to a new level, then perhaps they can contend for awards like that, and championships too, once again.
