At 18, HongQ debuts in the LPL alongside JunJia, who returns to the league for the first time since 2023
JD Gaming are rebuilding and have signed three new players. After a disappointing year with a roster that was expected to perform much better, the team is changing its formula once again. JDG announced on Monday that they acquired the mid-jungle duo from CTBC Flying Oyster, Yu “JunJia” Chun-Chia and Tsai “HongQ” Ming-Hong, as well as support Zhao “Vampire” Zhe-Can, who was secured during the LPL bidding phase.
JD Gaming may have pulled off one of the biggest moves in the LPL transfer window, having released Peng “Xun” Li-Xun (who rejoined Bilibili Gaming) and Lee “Scout” Ye-chan (who joined Nongshim RedForce in the LCK). JunJia thus returns to the LPL after a long stint with EDward Gaming, which he left in 2023, and will join HongQ, who, at just 18 years old, will be making his debut in one of the most stacked leagues in the world, arriving with his status as a prodigy from Taiwan.
Reinventing the formula
JDG had initially targeted Seo "Kanavi" Jin-hyeok at the start of the offseason, but unable to match HLE’s financial offer, they pivoted to the second option—the mid-jungle duo from CFO, who dominated the LCP and made a strong international impression this year. HongQ and JunJia are considered two of the best players in the entire LCP region, having achieved a historic domestic grand slam by winning all three splits and losing only one best-of series in the league this year.
Vampire had a convincing year at Team WE, playing on the botlane alongside Kim “Taeyoon” Tae-yoon. He posted solid mid-table statistics and had several standout moments, helping his team secure a strong fourth-place finish in Split 2. He was widely regarded as one of the top support prospects in the LPL, and JD Gaming secured him thanks to their strong financial position compared to the league average.
