PSG lost eight games in a row before winning eight in a row to qualify for Worlds 2025
CTBC Flying Oyster and PSG Talon have qualified for the 2025 World Championships. They join Gen.G, the only team already locked in for the tournament so far. CFO nearly slipped but edged out Team Secret Whales 2-1, while PSG upset GAM Esports 2-0 despite GAM being the favorites on paper.
Both LCP organizations are no strangers to the international stage. CFO had already represented the league as its No.1 seed at the First Stand and at the Mid Season Invitational, while PSG Talon make their return to the big stage after last year’s Worlds.
Two Kings to conquer the World
Fittingly, this qualification comes just as PSG reclaimed the name “PSG TALON” following their renewed partnership with Paris Saint-Germain, and welcomed back Huang “Maple” Yi-Tang, who had retired at the end of 2024. This Summer Split may well be their redemption arc. While PSG Talon dominated the PCS in recent years, they’ve been under CFO’s rule since the start of 2025, like everyone else.
The Season Finals started rough. After BO1 losses to CFO, GAM Esports, and Team Secret Whales, PSG had to grind their way through a gauntlet of dangerous matches to earn this remarkable qualification. They strung together 2-0 wins against Chiefs Esports Club and DetonatioN FocusMe, then carried their momentum into the playoffs by sweeping MGN Vikings Esports and GAM with the same scoreline.
A scaling performance across the split, growing stronger with each step of the way. And in the decisive BO3 where an upset was on the line, Hung "Karsa" Hao-Hsuan and Lu "Betty" Yu-Hung shone brightest, carrying PSG to Worlds. For Karsa, who joined at the start of the year, it marks a long-awaited return to Worlds after five years, capped by an MVP-worthy performance in the series.
CFO’s series produced a less surprising result, yet the games themselves left room for an upset scenario. TSW fell 1-2, unable to handle a brilliantly drafted Swain in Game 3 in the hands of midlane prodigy Tsai "HongQ" Ming-Hong, alongside an unconventional Shen pick for Shen "Driver" Tsung-Hua in the toplane. The roster remains unique in its strengths and secures its third international event of 2025, a clear sign of dominance this year.
But to confirm it completely, they’ll have to chase a third trophy, starting with a showdown against PSG Talon next week in a best-of-five for a spot in the grand final. TSW and GAM fell into the lower bracket and will have to play in a best-of-five series to qualify and secure the last spot for Worlds.
