Ryu comes off nearly three years as BNK FEARX head coach
On November 18, Gen.G officially announced on social media the addition of Ryu "Ryu" Sang-wook as their new head coach. Ryu debuted as a player in 2011 with Startale and has played for KT Rolster, Team Roccat, H2k Gaming, and 100 Thieves. According to Daily E-Sports, more than five teams were interested in hiring Ryu as head coach before he ultimately joined Gen.G.
He will take over as head coach from Kim "KIM" Jeong-soo, who is departing alongside Kwon "Helper" Yeong-jae and Kim "Lyn" Da-bin, as announced by the organization. Ryu will face the herculean task of maintaining Gen.G's dominance in the LCK, following a record-breaking year that included an LCK title, a back-to-back MSI championship, and a record win-streak in League of Legends history.
The new head of the monster
Since 2022, Ryu began coaching Liiv SANDBOX's academy team, before the organization was renamed as BNK FEARX, and later became the head coach of the main BNK team in the same year. After leading the team for three years, he has now joined Gen.G.
Meanwhile, it is also reported that one of the coaching staff members from the LCK Challenger League (LCK CL) is likely to take over as BNK's next head coach following Yoo's departure.
