Gumayusi claims his first MVP of the Split
The LCK weekend began with a surprise as Dplus KIA edged out Hanwha Life Esports in a tight three-game series. After a competitive back-and-forth, it was Heo "ShowMaker" Su who led the charge in Game 3, earning MVP honors for his performance. Later in the day, T1 secured a 2-0 win over DN Freecs. While the first game was straightforward, the second was much closer, with T1 narrowly closing it out. Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyeong was named MVP for his crucial plays.
In the standings, Dplus KIA improves to 8-8 and now stand in a strong position to claim a playoff spot. HLE drops to 12-4 with this loss, which allows T1 to close the gap even further, all of this sets the stage for the next series, which will see T1 face off against HLE. DN Freecs, meanwhile, remains stuck at the bottom of the table with a 1-15 record.
Unpredictable Dplus KIA
After a recent loss to OKSavingsBank Brion, Dplus KIA came into this series as clear underdogs against the second-place Hanwha Life Esports. But against the odds, they stepped up and delivered a clutch performance to secure a vital win in the playoffs race. With this result, they now sit at 8-8 and are in a much stronger position heading into the final stretch of the split.
Senna, who’s been making her way back into the meta following recent buffs, had a major impact today in the hands of Kim "Aiming" Ha-ram. A crucial fight around the drake at 20 minutes gave him a quadrakill and led to a clean ace, putting Dplus far ahead. In Game 3, Jeon "Siwoo" Si-woo’s Yorick dominated the map. Involved in 12 of his team’s 13 kills, his pressure and presence were key to closing out the upset.
First MVP for Gumayusi
T1 delivered a clean Game 1 against the Freecs, and while Game 2 was a bit messier, they still managed to get the job done. The MVP pick sparked some debate, as several T1 players had standout performances and all would’ve been deserving. Mun "Oner" Hyeon-jun had a flawless showing on Skarner in Game 1, ending with 100% kill participation and saving Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok from certain death multiple times.
Ryu "Keria" Min-seok impressed on Rell but truly shined on his signature Bard in Game 2, with top-tier engages and perfectly timed disengages. Lastly, Gumayusi came up clutch in key teamfights on Lucian during the second game, acting as the central piece for T1 to close out a game that looked difficult to win. On the Freecs' side, Hong "Pyosik" Chang-hyeon played a solid game on Trundle, and Lee "DuDu" Dong-ju’s Sion outperformed his lane opponent.
Tomorrow marks the end of the eighth and penultimate week of the LCK, with two crucial matchups on the schedule. BRION will take on Nongshim RedForce, and a loss would officially end their playoffs hopes. In the second series, BNK FearX face a similar must-win situation against KT Rolster, needing a victory to stay alive in the race for the "Road to MSI".
