Worlds will mark Peanut’s final event before military service
It’s been known for days now that Han "Peanut" Wang-ho is playing his final year of competitive League before beginning his mandatory military service in South Korea. His last match at LoL Park was the 3-0 clean sweep against KT Rolster in the Upper Bracket Final, while his final LCK appearance came in the grand final at Incheon Arena, where his team fell 3-1 to Gen.G.
Last Tuesday, Peanut published an Instagram post in which he expressed his gratitude for ending his LCK career on a grand final, despite the defeat, thanking fans for standing by his side for more than a decade. Peanut added: "I'll give my final farewell after the World Championship concludes."
A potential glorious ending
One thing is certain: Peanut began his career among the greats, and he will end it among the greats. His iconic run with ROX Tigers in 2016 saw him win his first LCK title and reach a Worlds semifinal against SKT T1. He later joined that same SKT T1, where he added another LCK crown and a Mid-Season Invitational trophy—arguably the peak of his career. Peanut would go on to collect more LCK titles with Gen.G, Kingzone DragonX, and more recently Hanwha Life Esports, but there’s one trophy that has always eluded him: the ultimate prize for any League of Legends profesionnal player, the Worlds.
Next month in China, he will have one last chance to claim it—his final dance. Surrounded by world champions—Choi "Zeus" Woo-je in the toplane, Kim "Zeka" Geon-woo in mid, and Park "Viper" Do-hyeon as AD Carry—HLE have the tools to go deep in the tournament. And while they may not be the outright favorites, with Gen.G standing firmly as number one, HLE remain serious contenders for the Summoner’s Cup.
