With T1's loss, no teams remain undefeated in the LCK
This Thursday, August 7, Gen.G and T1 faced off once again in the LCK Round 3-5, and this time it was Gen.G who came out on top with a reverse sweep. T1, who had remained undefeated since the start of the Summer Split, finally fell to their eternal rivals. Earlier in the day, DN Freecs secured their first win of the Summer, defeating DRX and ending a 10-game losing streak that had lasted over three months of competition.
The series kicked off with a dominant win for T1 — a 19-to-2 stomp led by the reigning world champions on some of their most comfortable picks. Their Jhin-Bard botlane, arguably the best in the league on those champions, looked unstoppable. Mun "Oner" Hyeon-jun’s Trundle had full map control, while Choi "Doran" Hyeon-joon topped the damage charts on Aurora.
The two best teams in the world
In game 2, Gen.G and Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk made Yunara work — a champion whose win rate continues to rise as the split progresses. Ruler posted a flawless 11/0/5 performance, tying the series and pushing it to game 3. The decider saw Oner fall short on Nocturne, despite holding an 85% win rate on the pick. Ruler shined once again, this time on Ziggs, perfectly shutting down Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyeong’s Xayah. Gen.G now move to 22-1 in the LCK Summer Split, while T1 drop to 15-8.
In the first series of the day, DN Freecs finally picked up their first win of the Summer — coinciding with the promotion of Son "Quantum" Jeong-hwan to the main roster as support, replacing Kim "Life" Jeong-min for this match against DRX. The Freecs ended a ten-game losing streak that had stretched since May and can perhaps start dreaming again, even if the road ahead remains long. They currently sit at 2-21, dead last in the Rise Group, with the nearest team being DRX at 7-16. The first Play-In qualifying spot is currently held by OKSavingsbank BRION at 8-15.
