After going 17-1 in both Spring and Summer 2024, Gen.G will once again aim for the perfect split
Undisputedly the best team in the world right now, both in terms of gameplay and results, Gen.G remain undefeated in the Spring Split, with 14 consecutive BO3 wins. They’ve also won their last 20 games — an unbeaten streak rarely seen. With four BO3s left to play, they’ll look to extend it all the way to a perfect split, starting with tomorrow’s matchup against Hanwha Life Esports at 9 AM CET.
Gen.G haven’t lost a single match in nearly three months — their last defeat dates back to the LCK Cup final against Hanwha Life Esports, who currently sit second in the LCK standings. The key to their success lies in their consistency across every role.
In the toplane, Kim "Kiin" Gi-in has been rock solid. His three most played champions — Jayce, Rumble, and Gwen — each appear in five games, and he’s played 15 different champions overall. With strong laning stats and the highest KDA among all toplaners in the LCK, he’s been a defensive wall and a reliable force.
In the jungle, Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu has stuck to just nine champions this split, frequently playing Xin Zhao and Skarner. Always in the right place at the right time, he plays perfectly around his teammates but still shines individually — his two games on Zed, for example, were standout performances.
In the midlane, Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon is hands down the best midlaner in the world this split — and arguably one of the best players globally. His stats are staggering: nearly 10 CS per minute and participation in over two-thirds of his team’s kills. This might be the peak form of his career.
At the start of the year, the botlane was the roster’s biggest question mark, but it has turned into a major strength. Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk boasts a 100% win rate on Jhin — his most played champion — and holds a 15.0 KDA on the pick, along with 9.9 CS per minute. He’s reaffirmed his status as one of the best AD carries in the world. His support, Joo "Duro" Min-kyu, has adapted impressively to Gen.G’s demanding pace. Playing alongside such star power is no easy task, but Duro has handled it seamlessly — a bold move by the org that’s paid off big time.
For reference, a perfect split has only been achieved once in LCK history — by T1 during Spring 2022. Gen.G are now looking to match that record. Of the four matches they have left, two already look like easy wins on paper — against OKSavingsBank BRION and DRX. The real challenges will be Hanwha Life Esports tomorrow morning and KT Rolster on May 29.
Despite the gap between the two teams, KT are known for ending more than one Gen.G perfect split run. Gen.G are almost guaranteed a spot at MSI, where they’ll enter as heavy favorites, aiming to go back-to-back after winning MSI 2024 in China.
