Bwipo was named Finals MVP
FlyQuest claimed the LTA North Split 3 title on Sunday, September 7, defeating 100 Thieves 3-1 in the final. They dropped only two Nexus out of 17 throughout the entire split, securing their qualification for Worlds 2025, which will take place in China from October 14 to November 9. They will enter directly into Round 2 of the Regional Championship, where they will face Vivo Keyd Stars, the South Conference champions who also earned a Worlds spot.
The other two Round 1 series of the Regional Championship will pit the conference finalists against the third-place teams, with 100T facing paiN Gaming on the 13th and Red Canids taking on Shopify Rebellion on the 14th. This leaves just one Worlds' spot for the LTA, to be decided between these four teams.
FlyQuest, the hope of the West
FlyQuest have been by far the strongest team in LTA North in recent months, with a strong showing at the Mid-Season Invitational after winning Split 2, followed by a dominant victory in Split 3. Across the Atlantic, only G2 Esports seem capable of matching them, having recently defeated Karmine Corp 3-1 to secure their spot at Worlds.
Yet Game 1 was heavily dominated by 100T, who held a 4k gold lead at 30 minutes. Niship "Dhokla" Doshi and Lim "Quid" Hyeon-seung both had strong performances, and Victor "FBI" Huang’s Smolder scaling looked set to close things out. But a kill secured by Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau on his lane opponent, worth over 1,000 gold, followed by a clutch Ambessa ultimate on FBI, allowed FlyQuest to flip the game and open the series. Game 2 was nearly a perfect snowball for 100T, the fastest of the series at under 30 minutes, capped off by a decisive midlane fight where Fly were wiped in a clean ace.
Game 3 swung the other way, with FlyQuest stomping thanks to Bwipo’s Aatrox. A three-man dive attempt top turned into a disaster as he turned it around for a kill, and by the 30-minute mark he was literally holding off four opponents on his own. In the final game, Quid pulled out Lee Sin mid as both teams clashed repeatedly, producing the bloodiest match of the series. In the end, the Split 2 champions prevailed once again, claiming the title and their ticket to Worlds.
