T1 and G2 will still face off tomorrow in the third-place match
A quick semifinal day at the Esports World Cup, starting with Anyone's Legend clean sweeping T1 to take revenge for their MSI loss. Gen.G then followed up with a convincing 2-1 win over G2 Esports to secure their spot in the EWC Grand Final. With this result, Gen.G extends their series win streak to 23, now just one away from tying the all-time record held by T1.
We’re set for an LCK vs. LPL final at the second edition of the Esports World Cup, with the 2025 MSI champions facing the Split 2 champions from China. Anyone's Legend stomped T1 in Game 1 with a dominant 22-3 kill score, led by stellar performances from Cui “Shanks” Xiao-Jun and Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong, while Kim “Kael” Jin-hong’s Braum was near-perfect. Game 2 saw T1 put up more resistance, largely thanks to Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong’s Corki, but AL controlled the game from start to finish and closed out the series, sending T1 to the third-place match.
G2 resist but fall
G2 held on and even won a game, but ultimately fell short. In the first game, Gen.G executed their strategy perfectly, securing victory in just 25 minutes. Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon shined on Smolder with a 5/0/2 score, finishing the match with a pentakill in the late game. The second game saw G2 bounce back thanks to an outstanding performance from Steven "Hans Sama" Liv on Xayah, who went 15/2/7 and forced a decisive third game.
In the final match, Gen.G started strong by catching Rasmus "Caps" Winther early. From there, G2 fell one by one, while Gen.G survived multiple fights with very low HP. Despite G2’s resistance, Kim "Kiin" Gi-in on Ambessa landed clutch ultimates in the enemy backline, allowing his team to secure the game and the series, advancing to the final while maintaining their undefeated streak.
Last two BOs to close the competition
Tomorrow will be the final day of the League of Legends EWC tournament. First, T1 and G2 will face off in a best-of-three to determine third place—a financially important match for both teams, as the fourth-place finisher takes home $160,000. The third-place team will earn 11.5% of the prize pool, $230,000. The grand final is the only best-of-five of the tournament, with $600,000 on the line for either AL or Gen.G, while the runner-up will receive just over half of that—$320,000.
