Following the announcement of the
League of Legends Classic game mode, set to launch on July 29 with Patch 26.15, Riot Games is ramping up celebrations for this new mode inspired by Season 3. After the Mid-Season Invitational and the United States, Europe and South Korea are now set to host their own showmatches.
A confirmed EU LCS showmatch on July 25
Riot Games has confirmed the return of the EU LCS era with what it describes as
a "legendary" showmatch, scheduled for July 25, potentially as part of the LEC Summer Roadtrip hosted by
in Paris. No additional details have been shared yet regarding the format or the players involved. Riot did, however, confirm that more information will be revealed soon, suggesting that the rosters could be announced in the coming days.
As a reminder, a first showmatch had already been announced in North America. "LCS CLASSIC: TSM vs. CLG" will take place on July 24 at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles during the LCS Summer Split Opening Week. Riot has not yet revealed the lineups for that match either. It is therefore not unlikely that Europe and South Korea could follow a similar format, featuring some of the most iconic teams of the era, such as Fnatic, SK Telecom T1, Gambit, Lemondogs, or Samsung.
A second showmatch in South Korea
South Korea will also host its own event, titled the "LCK Legends Match," on August 4 at LoL Park in Seoul, just a few days after the LCK resumes on July 29. First unveiled during the MSI Finals in Daejeon on July 12, it will be the second showmatch of this kind to take place in the country. The first exhibition featured several iconic former Korean pros, including Kang "Ambition" Chan-yong, Heo "PawN" Won-seok, and Kang "Cpt Jack" Hyung-woo, much to the delight of longtime fans.
On the European side, Paul "sOAZ" Boyer and Bora "YellOwStaR" Kim also took part in the exhibition match held ahead of the MSI Final, fueling hopes that the two French former Fnatic players will also appear in the upcoming EU LCS showmatch. That possibility seems even more likely given that the event will be held in Paris. Liu "Zz1tai" Zhihao and Gao "WeiXiao" Xuecheng were also present to represent China, while the LPL remains the only historic league yet to announce its own League Classic legends showmatch.
