FlyQuest didn't lost a single game to 100 Thieves in 2024: 6-0
FlyQuest defeat 100 Thieves and earn a rematch in the playoffs against Team Liquid in the grand final. The Thieves, on the other hand, see their run come to an end and will head to Worlds in Europe as the LCS' 3rd seed. This win does not come as a surprise as the region has been dominated throughout the whole year by FLY and TL. 100T has actually not taken any games to FLY in 2024 bringing the yearly track record to a rough 6-0.
3-0, could it have been any different?
The final two series of the LCS Championship are taking place at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, in front of around 5,000 people. FlyQuest followed the expected script, entering the lower bracket final as the heavy favorite against a 100 Thieves team that had already pulled off their biggest upset of the season against Cloud9 in the previous round. The series, in fact, turned into a 1 hour and 36 minute masterclass.
100 Thieves never held a lead in any of the three games. Interestingly, all three matches featured flashy early plays. Game 1 was the calmest, as FlyQuest focused on scaling Song "Quad" Su-hyeong's Aurelion Sol. Nonetheless, Game 2 turned into a real bloodbath, with the 10 players racking up a total of 41 kills. Fahad "Massu" Abdulmalek's Kai'Sa played a crucial role, securing 5 kills by the 8-minute mark. This game also marked the first lesson Bwipo gave to Rayan "Sniper" Shoura, as he ended the match with a 5,300 gold deficit.
Nonetheless, game 2 saw the 10 players fight over a real bloodbath. 41 kills have been done in total, and Fahad "Massu" Abdulmalek's Kai'Sa took a decisive part in it as he already had 5 kills at 8 minutes. This was also the first lesson given by Bwipo over Rayan "Sniper" Shoura as he ended the game with a 5.300 gold deficit.
The Thieves appeared desperate, and it showed in Game 3 when they locked in Kalista and Senna in the bot lane, alongside Yasuo and Zac—a high-risk, high-reward composition, essentially a "go hard or go home" approach, aiming for a statement game in the series. However, FlyQuest had a strong early game, and once again, 100 Thieves were outclassed by Bwipo and Quad.
In every game, Bwipo stood out, particularly with his Rumble and Olaf in the last two matches, proving his ability to carry his team through chaotic early and mid-game phases. He also finished as the deadliest player in the series, boasting a 19/7/17 KDA. The outcome was inevitable, and Bwipo deservedly earned the "Player of the Series" award.
FLY versus TL, a 2024 classic
All eyes are now on the grand final. FlyQuest faces its biggest nemesis of the season, the reigning Spring champions aiming for the grand slam. It is to be reminded this title would be the first ever for FlyQuest as an organization, but also for each player of this roster. Their potential win would also end Bwipo's title drought, as he has lost all the finals he’s played since his last title with Fnatic in the 2018 Summer in EU LCS. To achieve this, he will have to take down Jeong "Impact" Eon-young, the Summer MVP in the LCS.
Both teams will fight not only for the title but also to determine who will head to Worlds as the number 1 seed, potentially easing the early matches in the competition. Tune in this Saturday at 10 PM CET.
