100 Thieves struggled but beat Dignitas for the second time. They will face Cloud9 this Sunday.
End of the season for Dignitas. This is overall a disappointing year for a team that brought together many veterans to its roster such as Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen, Nicolaj "Jensen" Jensen and Eric "Licorice" Ritchie. Despite showing off their very best level this whole year, they will end at the 5th place exactly like in Spring Split. They started to be known for their silver scrapes in this LCS Championship and made us believe in an upset as they pushed 100 Thieves to win the series 3-2. But on paper, the thieves were the favorites in this series and were forced to use some of their pocket picks to get them out of the trap.
Quid to save them from the trap
In Game 1, 100 Thieves threw the game on an inconsequential Hextech dragon, impaling themselves on Dignitas' composition and allowing them to close the game in 26 minutes. 100 Thieves answered by a stomp game in 27 minutes and 30 seconds, with no room for Jensen’s Corki to scale. Game 3 was tighter until Dignitas' snowball began after they secured Baron at the 21-minute mark. They pushed the thieves to the edge, just one Nexus away from elimination. At this precise moment, the series takes a turning point as Lim "Quid" Hyeon-seung ignites the rebellion.
In Game 4, the Thieves were heading towards another stomp but threw a teamfight in the midgame. Luckily, their mid/jungle duo of Amumu and Yone proved to be unstoppable, creating enough space for Frank "Tomo" Lam's Ziggs to deal massive damage and push the series to Game 5. The final game was a much slower stomp, lasting 30 minutes. The thieves secured every objective and won every teamfight with a dazzling Yasuo pick alongside Lillia, and Kai'Sa. None of the three died even once.
In the end, this last game was what this entire series should have looked like on paper: a clean 3-0 as in their first confrontation in these Championships. But Dignitas gave us a swan song, delivering their best performance of the year before bowing out.
100 Thieves will now face Cloud9 this Sunday at 10 PM CET. Their last series was during LCS 2024 Spring Playoffs earlier this year. It resulted in Cloud9 destroying the thieves 3-0 in 1 hour 25 minutes.
