After a much longer Last Chance Qualifier than expected, the four Tier 2 teams set to join the
VCT Americas Play-In have finally been decided. The field includes Brazilian organization 2GAME Esports, which returns to the top tier after being relegated at the end of last year following its LCQ victory, alongside La Masia from Challengers Brazil, BESTIA from Challengers Latin America, and M80 from North America.
The final team to qualify, 2GAME Esports is also the most recognizable name among the four newcomers heading into
VCT Americas Stage 2, although its roster has changed completely. The Brazilian organization originally joined the league in 2025 after winning Ascension 2024, where it notably defeated M80 in the Grand Final. After finishing second in both splits of the 2026 Brazilian Challengers season, 2GAME narrowly missed direct qualification for the Play-In and instead had to battle through the Last Chance Qualifier, featuring the runners-up from the continent's two other major leagues, Shopify Rebellion Black from North America and Contra from Latin America.
In the end, SR Black and 2GAME met in the Grand Final, a Best-of-five that had to be played across two days due to technical issues. The Brazilian side eventually came out on top with a 3-2 victory.
All the qualified teams
Despite finishing only 9th-10th during Stage 1 of VCL Brazil, La Masia went on to win the second split, overtaking every other Brazilian team to secure the region's direct Play-In slot. Transformed by the arrivals of Carlos "Zanatsu" Eduardo and Davi "Palla" Alcides, who previously played for FURIA in VCT Americas during the 2025 season, the mix found new life. After placing third in its group, La Masia also had to fight through a Play-In before reaching the playoffs. Although the team won that initial stage, it was immediately sent to the lower bracket after losing to MIBR Academy in its first playoff match. With no room for error, La Masia then strung together three consecutive victories, including a revenge win over the same academy roster, before reaching the Grand Final against 2GAME, where it completed its remarkable run with a 3-2 victory.
Representing Latin America, BESTIA is much more than just a regional qualifier. The Chilean organization, competing in Challengers Latin America South, dominated its season by winning both splits and securing a place in the continental final against Contra, the VCL Latin America North representative. Facing the Colombian organization and its predominantly Mexican roster, BESTIA was pushed early in the series. After edging out Breeze 16-14 to open the Best-of-five, it was caught off guard on Sunset. Led by captain Marco "Melser" Machuca, formerly of KRÜ Esports in VCT Americas, the South American side responded by winning Haven and Summit to secure its Play-In berth while sending Contra to the LCQ.
North America claimed the final direct Play-In slot through Challengers NA. Only the winner of Stage 3 earned a direct qualification, while the best-performing team across the entire season based on circuit points, Shopify Rebellion Black as mentioned earlier, advanced to the LCQ instead. After finishing 5th-6th in the opening split, M80 dominated the remainder of the season by winning both of the following stages, defeating Shopify Rebellion Black in both Grand Finals. Having already been part of M80's roster during the organization's loss to 2GAME in the 2024 Ascension Grand Final, captain Marc-Andre "NiSMO" Tayar finally gets a measure of revenge and will make his long-awaited debut in the VALORANT Champions Tour.
A new format for 2026
Alongside the traditional Group Stage, Riot Games introduced a new Play-In phase for Stage 2 across its international leagues. Designed to close the gap between Tier 2 and Tier 1, the format gives emerging teams the opportunity to compete against the region's top-level opposition.
Played in a double-elimination Best-of-three format, the Play-In sees the four teams that qualified through their regional leagues face the four lowest-ranked VCT Americas teams from the Stage 2 Group Stage. Four spots in the Stage 2 Playoffs are up for grabs.
The two best-performing teams, regardless of whether they come from VCT Americas or Tier 2, will advance directly to the upper bracket of the Stage 2 Playoffs. The other two qualified teams will start in the lower bracket. However, even a successful Tier 2 run through the Play-In does not guarantee a place at
VALORANT Champions. Only a Stage 2 Grand Final appearance secures direct qualification, meaning any earlier playoff exit, no matter how deep the run, will ultimately fall short.
