dupreeh retires with five Major titles—an all-time record
So long, legend. This Sunday, Counter-Strike icon Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen announced his retirement at the age of 32. The Danish veteran shared the news on stage at the Austin Major, just minutes before the grand final between The MongolZ and Team Vitality. It was a fitting moment for the player who holds the all-time record of five Major victories—his most recent one was in Paris in 2023... with Vitality. In some sense, the Bees’ win also served as a tribute to the man who helped guide the organization to its first Major title two years ago.
"It's time to say goodbye," dupreeh told the crowd, tears streaming down his face. “When I first started playing Counter-Strike, I never imagined we could gather so many people, or that esports would grow to this scale. At the time, my only ambition was to make a name for myself. If I could just win one Major, that would’ve been enough—that alone would’ve been an achievement. And now, here I stand, with five titles…”
The Astralis Era
Dupreeh began his professional career in 2012 with 3DMAX, before joining Copenhagen Wolves in 2013, where he first linked up with Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz and Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth—teammates with whom he would share a journey spanning more than seven years. Though early success at Majors proved elusive, he finally broke through in Atlanta in 2017, securing his first title under the Astralis banner. He would go on to be an integral part of the Danish dynasty that dominated the scene with three consecutive Majors—London, Katowice, and Berlin—between 2018 and 2019, along with the historic first-ever Intel Grand Slam.
Following dev1ce’s departure and amid a post-COVID decline in Astralis’s form, dupreeh made a move to Team Vitality, where he competed in English for the first time in his career. After a challenging start, he played a key role in leading Vitality to their first Major victory, triumphing in front of a home crowd in Paris at what would be the final Major in the Global Offensive era. By then, dupreeh had also embraced a new role off the server—that of a young father. That victory marked the final highlight of a legendary career that also included brief stints with Heroic, Preasy Esport, and Team Falcons. Inactive since last November, dupreeh has now confirmed that this pause is permanent. Like his name, into the history of Counter-Strike.
