"I'm definitely really looking forward to the match against G2, it’ll be a very new experience for me"
The 2025 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is in full swing as Bilibili Gaming and G2 Esports prepare to clash for a coveted spot in the Main Event. After a dominant 3-0 victory over GAM Esports, the Chinese representatives remain undeterred and focused, ready to overcome any challenge in their way. In an exclusive interview, jungler and newcomer Yang "Beichuan" Ling sits down with Sheep Esports to discuss his first international event, handling the pressure, and BLG’s ultimate goal at MSI.
How do you feel about advancing to the next round after a 3-0 win? Was it difficult to stay at the venue all day waiting for your match?
Yang "Beichuan" Ling: "We're all very happy to have won and qualified for the next round, especially with a 3-0. Regarding today, we had a bit of a long wait, and we're all still jetlagged, so we were kind of tired while waiting for our match. Right now, we wake up around 7–8 a.m. because of the jetlag, so it was a little difficult.
This is your first time playing on the international stage — how has the experience been so far, with all the fans, the stage, and adapting to being in Canada?
Beichuan: I can really feel the passion and enthusiasm of the fans here — it cheered me up so much. I love that feeling. Aside from the jetlag, things have been good for us.
Some players love interviews, others don’t. Have you been enjoying giving out all these interviews? You can be honest, I won't be mad.
Beichuan: [Exhales and smiles] I'm not a really talkative person, so in accordance with my personality, I don't like to have too many interviews.
How would you describe yourself, both as a person and as a player?
Beichuan: In my daily life, I think I'm a very easygoing person. As a pro player, I really would like to prove myself on the big stage internationally to show that I'm a very competitive jungler.
Was becoming a pro something you've always wanted, or did that goal come later? When did you first decide to pursue it?
Beichuan: I decided when I realized my mechanics and individual abilities were really good, able to match the ones of pro players. I knew I could reach a really high level, and that's when I first wanted to go pro.
There’s some history between G2 and BLG, but that was before your time. Are you excited to face G2, and do you feel any rivalry even as a newer player?
Beichuan: I'm definitely really looking forward to the match against G2. But as for rivalry, since this is my first international journey, I don't have that feeling myself. Still, I'm really excited because it’ll be a very new experience for me.
How is it having players like Bin and ON as mentors? Do you see them that way even though they’re younger than you?
Beichuan: Despite the age difference, the players on my team are all super experienced both regionally and internationally. They’ve been really helpful, giving me advice and helping me adapt, especially since we arrived in Vancouver. I want to give credit to them.
Is there any stress playing internationally, especially since BLG placed second at MSI and Worlds last year? Do you feel pressure to live up to those expectations?
Beichuan: The only thing I consider in game is my own performance and how I can grow and progress with our team. I don't care about the pressure or stress. I just focus on my own play.
For BLG, is winning the tournament the only measure of success, or would reaching top 4 or other milestones also be considered good?
Beichuan: Our ultimate goal will always be to become champions, to win the cup. Still, I’m the newest member of the team, so I feel like we need to go step by step, and after that, we’ll be able to think about our final goals."
