After two challenging years in the LFL,
AEGIS have officially announced on Wednesday their
departure from the League of Legends competitive scene. The decision comes after a disastrous 2024 season that saw the team relegated to Div2 following a poor performance in the Up&Down tournament last September. Before that, the Shield finished last in both LFL splits, despite four roster changes between the two splits. As a final effort, AEGIS presented a revamped lineup for the Coupe de France shortly after their relegation. However, their run was short-lived, as they were eliminated in the second round by GameWard, bringing a tough season to an unfortunate end.
The first year of the club co-founded by Xavier âMisterMVâ Dang, KĂ©vin âShaunzâ Ghanbarzadeh, and Alexis âDFGâ Rodrigues in the French league had nevertheless been rather promising. With veteran JĂ©rĂ©my âEikaâ Valdenaire on the midlane, AEGIS finished third in the Spring Split, then 6th in the Summer Split. Before the start of the season, the team's manager
LĂ©o âLounetâ Maurice told L'Ăquipe that they wanted to continue the adventure with Eika in 2024. But the club was unable to offer him a âdecent offerâ.
In 2023, AEGIS also had rising talent in jungler Rudy âSkewMondâ Semaan, who had a breakout year in 2024 with BDS Academy, winning both the LFL and the EMEA Masters. However, while SkewMond's career soared, AEGIS found themself on a downward trajectory, culminating in the team's departure from the League of Legends scene. Despite their exit from LoL, AEGIS remains active in other esports, including
Teamfight Tactics, where the organization first made its name, and the fighting game
Street Fighter VI. AEGIS is now the second influencer-driven team to leave
League of Legends, following
the earlier departure of Team du Sud.
